Anindilyakwa Makarda Management Plan
The Anindilyakwa Makarda Management Plan is a landmark document designed to communicate vital management activities relating to the sea country (‘Makarda’) of the Groote Archipelago. Created for the Anindilyakwa Land Council Land & Sea Rangers, the plan needed to speak clearly and meaningfully to a diverse audience - field rangers, coordinators, executive staff, and senior Traditional Owners - serving as both a practical reference tool and a cultural storytelling document.
bellette’s design approach focused on clarity, accessibility, and visual storytelling. A highly structured yet captivating layout was developed to ensure key messages could be understood at a glance, supported by impactful imagery, infographics, and richly detailed maps. At the heart of the design is a hero double-page spread illustrating marine megafauna - a centrepiece that celebrates cultural knowledge and environmental stewardship. Drone photography, GIS maps, and curated imagery further enrich the visual narrative throughout.
The final product is printed on durable, fieldwork-ready stock with binding built to last, ensuring it stands up to daily handling in office, vehicle, and on-country settings. The Makarda Plan is both a practical and symbolic investment in long-term protection of Anindilyakwa sea country. The result is a powerful visual testament to the deep connection between people and place, and the strength of local knowledge in preserving it.
